The First International Workshop on Algebraic Geometry,
Particle Physics and String Theory

Relation of String Theory to Gauge Theories and Moduli Problems of Branes

(Steklov Mathematical Institute, Moscow, Russia, September 10–14, 2012)

Organizers: Alexey Bondal, Sergey Gorchinskiy, Kentaro Hori.
Local Organizers: Olga Grishina, Stanislav Komarov, Vera Kuznetsova, Ekaterina Malinina, Igor Netay, Andrey Trepalin.

This is the first workshop in a series that has the purpose to bring together mathematicians working in Algebraic Geometry, Homological Algebra and Number Theory and physicists studying modern theories aimed at understanding the elementary particles that compose our Universe. We believe that mathematical community needs to be more familiar with ideas and problems encountered by Particle Physics and String Theory, while physicists can get profit from advanced mathematical theories and viewpoints of mathematicians.

The first workshop is devoted to the aspects of interrelations of String Theory to Gauge Theories and comparing of physicists’ and mathematicians’ viewpoints on branes in various aspects.
